How to Create a Two-Part Blast Design Using the "Copy From Another Project" Feature

In some quarrying and mining scenarios, you may need to start drilling the back rows of a pattern before the current face is blasted and cleared. Once the front rock is cleared, a second drone scan is required to capture the newly exposed face to safely design the front rows.

Strayos allows you to easily manage this phased approach by letting you design your initial holes in one project, and then copy that exact design into a new project featuring your updated terrain scan.

WarningCRITICAL WARNING: For this workflow to function safely and accurately, both the original scan and the new scan must be correctly georeferenced using the same coordinate system. If the 3D models are not perfectly aligned in real-world space, the copied drill holes will not land in the correct physical location on your new terrain.

Step-by-Step Workflow

Phase 1: The Initial Design (Back Rows)

  1. Process your first drone scan in Strayos as a new project.

  2. Design your initial set of holes (e.g., the back rows) on this model so your drilling team can begin their work.

Phase 2: The New Scan (Front Rows)

Once the front shot is fired and mucked out, fly the new face and process this second scan as a brand new project in Strayos.

To bring your initial design into the new scan:

  1. Open your new project (the one containing the updated face scan).

  2. Look at the left-hand menu panel and click on the From Another Project button.

  3. A modal window titled "Choose a project to copy from" will appear on your screen.

  4. Use the dropdown menus to select the Site and the Project where you created your initial back-row design.

  5. Click Copy.

  6. Strayos will instantly populate your existing hole pattern onto the new 3D model. You will see a "Shot plan copied successfully" confirmation message at the bottom of the screen.

  7. Pro-Tip (Visual Verification): Once copied, use the layer option to display both scans simultaneously. Showing both models at once provides an excellent visual reference for your existing blast design in relation to the new terrain

Phase 3: Completing the Design

Now that your initial back rows are accurately placed on the updated terrain, you can use the standard blast design tools to add your new front row holes directly alongside them. This ensures your front-row burdens are perfectly calculated against the newly exposed face while keeping your entire pattern unified.
