How to use the inclined base plane feature when creating a drill pattern in Drilling Design
First enter the drilling design module and select 'Create New Shotplan'.
Option 1: Manually enter values toe plane:
After drawing the AB line, you can set up toe plane by entering ‘Floor Elevation’ and ‘Floor Plane Grade’ information.
Once you enter a Floor Plane Grade that is not zero, you will see inputs for setting the ramp angle and pivot points.
- Floor Elevation - The elevation of the Pivot Point for the plane
- Floor Plane Grade - The dip angle of the floor plane (horizontal = 0)
- Floor Plane Azimuth/Bearing - The dip direction azimuth of the floor plane (based off True North or local/site coordinate system. Not based off Magnetic North; compass measurements must be adjusted to True North)
- Floor Plane Pivot Along - The distance of the Pivot Point in the single dimension along the AB line
- Floor Plane Pivot Away - The distance of the Pivot Point in the single dimension perpendicular to the AB line
Clicking the ‘Apply’ button will automatically set up your holes based on your input. If the grade is set as 0, it will generate a horizontal toe plane.
Option 2: Click and drag on the 3D model using ‘Select Floor Plane on Model’.
- Click 'Select Floor Plane on Model'
- Click the 'Allow Plane Rotation' toggle switch at the top of the screen
- Click on a central point in your shot and drag the cursor in the downhill direction of your ramp. The further you drag the cursor from the starting point, the greater the dip angle. Releasing the mouse click will set the Floor Plane Grade and Floor Plane Azimuth/Bearing
- Move the cursor around until you find the correct pivot point for your plane and then double click to set the plane.
- You can repeat the process if you need to make adjustments or manually update the input fields.
- Clicking the ‘Apply’ button will automatically set up your holes based on your input.
- Definition: A base plane in 3D space is defined by three parameters, which are center point coordinates, grade degrees, and azimuth degrees. The center point is defined by (x,y,z), the default center point is the center point of the 2D map with the lowest elevation, which is
- Elevation: Elevation is one input field, which will define the elevation of the center point. It won’t change the X and Y of the center point.
- Grade: Grade is the second input field. Grade is the degree angle between the base plane and the horizontal plane. If grade is 0, the base plane would be horizontal.
- Azimuth: Azimuth is the third input field. Azimuth is the degree angle between normal vector of the base plane and the true North direction on the 2D map. Grade and Azimuth together define the normal vector of the base plane.
